Jesus Rescues Me

I just moved to Huntington a couple of weeks ago and it has been such an adjustment. I started a new job as a GA at the university, I have new classes, and I’m meeting new people every day. I am also church hopping like crazy because I NEED a good church to go to down here.

So this past Sunday, I went to Teays Valley Baptist Church – and it was so wonderful. It’s a pretty traditional church - and let me say this – that is a lost gem in today’s society.

Don’t get me wrong – I love contemporary churches, too. I even faithfully attended a contemporary church when I was at WVU in Morgantown.

But I have honestly forgotten what it’s like to stand there and sing some classic hymns with my fellow Christians, or what it’s like to sit and listen to a big choir sing an extremely moving song.

And that ^^^ is exactly what this blog post is about – that amazing song I heard on Sunday.

I can’t stop listening to it. It is constantly on repeat on my phone.

It’s called Jesus Rescues Me. Here’s the link to the song:

Listen to the entire song and try to tell me you didn’t get chills.

These are the lyrics that get me the most:

"A heavy heart can break your will

A troubled soul leaves time standing still

If you're hurting please don't hide

Lift up your head I'm on your side"

That last line – “Lift up your head, I’m on your side.”

Makes me want to cry just thinking of God saying that to me.

There’s not much that I can say about this line, but God has been laying it on my heart for the past few days to write about it. I just love the thought of knowing that God is on my side.

Psalm 118:6 says, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: What can man do unto me?”

Whatever battle you’re going through right now – whether it’s your health, your relationship, your desires, your heartache, you name it – lift up your head, child of God. He is on your side.

Psalm 3:3 says, "But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high."

Whatever is stumping your faith right now (and you know what it is), remember that you are not alone.

And yes, right now, you might feel like you’re losing this battle that you’re in.

But you gotta remember that we have won the war. WE HAVE WON THE WAR.

Jesus died on the cross so that you could win the war against sin and death and shame and grief and depression and anxiety.

Praise God that He sent His son to die on the cross for us. Praise God my anxiety doesn’t have to control my life. Praise God my grandparent’s deaths don’t have to be the end of my joy and happiness.

Praise God that Jesus rescues me!
