I think this might be one of the most practical pieces of advice regarding God that I have ever gotten.
Maybe you’ve noticed that you are lacking wisdom in certain areas of your life. For me, I notice that almost every day. I do some pretty ridiculous things everyday and I think to myself Why did I do that and what on earth is wrong with me?
Who else has been there LOL.
However, wisdom is something that we desperately need in our lives, but it can be difficult to get it sometimes.
I hear preachers always talking about how we should seek wisdom every day and all that entails… but when they say things like this, I always think to myself: How do I actually do this? How do I become more wise?
Firstly, you have to pray for wisdom. Pray for that wisdom every single day. Seek God while you are praying for that wisdom. James 1:5 says,
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
But the Bible doesn't stop there.
Verse 6 says,
“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.”
In short, if you want wisdom, ask God for it, but do it while seeking God. Ask for that wisdom with faith. Ask like it’s already been done. Pray with expectancy.
Secondly – and this is the most practical information I have for you about gaining wisdom – read a chapter of Proverbs every single day.
Think about the practicality of this. Who was the wisest man in the Bible aside from Jesus Christ?
Solomon.
Who wrote the book of Proverbs?
Solomon.
If you want to gain wisdom from God, start by reading Proverbs.
When you first start reading, you might only understand 1 out of 30 verses in that chapter. And that is okay. Instead of getting frustrated that you don’t understand, think about that one verse and try to understand what God is teaching you through that verse.
Keep up that discipline every day for 31 days and soon, you will understand more and more verses every day.
Eventually, there might be only one verse that you don’t understand.
Be hungry for wisdom and be willing to do anything it takes to get that wisdom. Discipline yourself and long for the wisdom that only God can give you.
